Spring is a perfect time to visit Sahli Nature Park. As winter’s chill gives way to spring’s warm sun, the park is a great place for a family picnic, a walk along the woodland trails, catching-and-release fishing, bird watching, or photographing the scenery and wildlife.
Wildflower season begins in April, and everyday something new is in bloom. Flowering Dogwoods and Wild Cherry trees show their delicate white blossoms around the pond and on the trails. Native Columbine, Bluebells, Bleeding Heart, and Veronica Speedwell take turns blooming throughout the park. The red and green pointed hoods of Skunk Cabbage emerge along the stream banks. Colonies of ferns unfurl their feathery fronds.
Sky blue Blue-birds, iridescent navy blue Indigo Buntings, and familiar red breasted Robins search for food in the meadows. Scarlett Cardinals, Song Sparrows and other woodland birds sing to establish their territories and attract mates. Our pair of resident Red Shouldered Hawks soak high in the sky. You may spot Mallard Ducks and Canada Geese cruising on the pond or Painted Turtles basking on logs in the sun.
The frog chorus sounds as Spring Peepers, Bull Frogs, and Wood Frogs sing to announce their emergency from a winter hibernation and to attract their mates.
Pack a picnic lunch and grab the kids… Find your fishing rod and binoculars… Get your camera or sketchbook… Come and enjoy the sights, sounds and colors of nature at Sahli Park!
