It seems like it’s taken forever to get here but, finally, the summer of 2021 has arrived! All you have to do is look around and you will see that people are more than ready to get out and enjoy this summer!
While some policies may still be in place and social distancing may still be a thing, there is no doubt that people are on the move.
At the Fire Department, we are excited to be part of that movement! You are going to see us from time to time at different events but the big news is that our annual carnival is back! Our amusement company has been in communication with us and they are moving forward with what they have to do to operate within the ever-receding guidelines. Our carnival committee has also been adjusting their plans accordingly to bring this popular event back to our community!
The one thing that COVID-19 has not stopped is our emergency response. We have continued to respond to multiple rescue, fire, and EMS emergencies and our trainings have been modified to keep honing our skills while keeping our members safe.
This year has already been very productive! Several of our members participated in live fire structure burn trainings and a couple of members have tested for their Firefighter I and Firefighter II certifications. We continue to have our bi-monthly in-house trainings and our first responders continue to keep up on their EMS training.
With summer in full swing, please be ever vigilant of your surroundings. We’d love to be invited to your barbecue, but not because your grill is on fire! Help us to help you by not letting the warm weather and sunny days distract you from being safe. Keep a water source near your backyard recreational fire. Don’t text and drive. Watch out for bicycles and motorcycles and when doing your summertime home improvements, please think safety first.
We wish to thank you for your continued support and look forward to seeing many of you at the carnival as well as other events.
When you see us out and about feel free to give us a friendly shout and a wave. After all, we are here to serve you!
Lastly, when we are responding to someone’s emergency and you see our lights and hear our sirens, please: look around you and move as far to the right as possible when and if it is safe to do so. It’s understood that as we weave through traffic, you may end up missing your light or making a turn when you needed to go straight. Often, we inadvertently cause inconvenience, but it is a small price to pay when you stop to think that it just may be someone you know that we are making our way to help.
Have a safe and happy summer!
