When you are in an accident or your house catches on fire as a resident of Chippewa Township, you dial 911 and the Chippewa Township fire department responds.

But, who are these responders that show up in the big white trucks? They are members of the community just like you with jobs and family obligations. They are not a paid full-time staff, rather they are volunteers.

The fire department is alerted via pagers and our members respond. Sometimes from restaurants, leaving their family behind. Sometimes from work, sometimes from there household obligations, and even from their beds in the middle of the night.

They are students, business owners, sales reps, mechanics, dispatchers and delivery people among many other occupations.

We have 28 members making up our department and to provide the services that we do, takes a lot of time,
commitment, training and most of all, heart.

In addition to our family obligations and occupations your volunteers spend their spare time and sometimes time that they don’t have, responding to calls and training. Most of our members have committed the extra time and effort needed to become state certified firefighters giving you the residents of Chippewa Township some of the best protection a volunteer fire department can offer!!!

You may ask yourself, “how is all of this possible?”.

We want you to know, that we couldn’t provide all of this without your support.

Our fundraisers and other public relations activities have been largely successful in the past because of you.

As our township grows, so must our fire department and we look forward to your continuing support.

With winter quickly approaching, it’s important that our homes are safe and warm. Make sure your chimneys and furnace vents are clean and working properly. Be cautious of where and when you bum candles and keep an eye on your stove and oven as you prepare your holiday meals. Check your smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors to make sure they are working properly.

Your car too needs to be ready for the winter weather. Make sure your tires are properly inflated and have plenty of tread. Check all your fluids and make sure you have good wiper blades. Most importantly, be sure to clear your windows and lights of snow and ice before venturing out.

The men and women of the Chippewa Township Fire Department want you to have a safe and enjoyable holiday season and a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Follow us on Facebook or visit our web site: Chippewafire.org to keep up on our latest activities and announcements including a possible visit to your neighborhood by the jolly old elf himself, Santa Clause!

So, the next time you find yourself in need of the fire department, or you see our trucks screaming down the road, know that we are here for you. So, in closing, remember that we are not just firefighters we are your neighbors and we might just be responding to help someone that you know!
