In 1793, two decades before Chippewa Township was founded, three brave Revolutionary War soldiers, Henry Inman, Abraham Powers, and Thomas Stratton, settled here. Following the Treaty of Greenville in 1795, the Native Americans moved west, and many settlers moved into the area. Many names of those early arrivals still ring familiar today: Robertson, Thompson, Inman, Veon, and Brooks, to name a few.
After Chippewa Township was established in 1814, the first recorded tax list came in 1817, listing names and occupations. Farmers were not taxed but others, such as Inn Keeper, Chair Maker, and Blacksmith, were charged forty to fifty cents per year.
This year Beaver County History Weekend will be held May 6 and 7, 2023. Along with many other historical sites in the county, McKinley Schoolhouse will be open Saturday the May 6, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. and Sunday, May 7, 2023 from 12:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
