Recreation for the Ages

Submitted by Lauren Doyle, Director of Parks & Recreation

I had the pleasure of growing up in this community, graduating from Blackhawk School District, and now I have the excitement of raising my family here, too. This town has provided wonderful parks and recreational opportunities for our community for years. There have been community days, movie nights, and bus trips for all ages. Taking that foundation of offerings, my goal is to work with our recreation board members and volunteers to expand what we can do for our community for all age groups.

We are excited for our upcoming summer events including our annual Community Day on July 10th with a few new twists to the tradition. Our event will run from 4-7pm at Wright Fields featuring a live band, food trucks, car cruise, and games and fun for all ages. In addition, we are adding a few new things for this summer and fall season including bi-monthly food trucks on Thursdays at Wright Fields and community yoga classes every other Saturday morning, rotating between our beautiful parks (Veterans, Chippewa & Sahli).

A new initiative I’m hoping to start in 2021 is the Chippewa Area Retired Residents group. C.A.R.R. will be open to anyone age 55+ and the goal is to provide monthly meetings with guest speakers and snacks, special trips throughout the year, and targeted marketing materials. If you are interested in helping get this group up and running, or joining in on the fun, please email recreation@chippewa-twp.org or call 724-581-5495.

To keep up to date with everything we have going on, check out our website at chippewa-twp.org/ departments/parks-recreation/ and our Facebook page. We also have launched our new online portal which you can access at chippewa. recdesk.com/Community/Home (or through our website). This portal will allow you to sign up for our upcoming events, check calendars, and reserve some of our township facilities directly online.

If you have any great parks or recreation ideas you’d like to see happen in Chippewa, are interested in volunteering to join our Recreation Board, or would like to help out at events, I’d love to hear from you. I’m looking forward to the great things to come for Chippewa Township Parks & Recreation!

New Playground Alert!

Stop by Wright Fields and check out our new playground designed for ages 2-12! With the addition of our new playground, we also added sidewalks and landscaping should be installed soon. We hope you’ll get the chance to visit the playground, it’s begging to be used by all of our littlest community members!
