The Chippewa Area Lions Club has been serving our area since 1956 and is always looking for new ways to build up the community. The club noticed that families spending time at the new playground the township added to Veteran’s Park at Wright Fields, walking the track, or participating in sporting events did not have places to sit down and rest for a few minutes. The club talked with the township and agreed to investigate providing benches for all three community parks (Wright Fields, Chippewa Park, and I.S. & Gertrude Sahli Nature Park).

As a partner in our fundraising efforts, the Lions reached out to the Lions of Pennsylvania Foundation for funding assistance. The Lions of Pennsylvania Foundation (LOPF) is a 501-c3 tax exempt corporation that seeks financial support and then helps provide resources to Lions Clubs within Pennsylvania. After speaking with LOPF, the Chippewa Area Lions began working on the grant process.

With the assistance of the grant from LOPF totaling $1300, the Chippewa Area Lions were able to raise the remaining funds to purchase eight plastic wood composite benches to be installed around the three Chippewa parks. The benches are engraved with “Donated by Chippewa Area Lions” and have a plaque attached acknowledging the contribution made by the Lions of Pennsylvania Foundation. The Chippewa Area Lions are always happy to help within our community and continue to live up to the Lions Club motto: “We Serve.”
